Whether you prefer to use iTunes as your default music purchasing service or previously used iOS devices and consequently built up a library of music with it, there’s no doubt that getting iTunes to sync music to your Android device is very handy.

However, it won’t do it alone, it needs some help in the form of third-party apps that install a host server program on your computer, and an app on the Android device. The idea is that the host program gets the music and playlists from iTunes and sends them to the Android app. In turn, some apps can harvest photos and videos created with your Android device and sync them back to a location of your choice on the host computer.
There are a few packages that do this, but one of the most popular is iSyncr by JRT Studio. The host software for your PC or Mac is free, but the Android app is an inexpensive purchase.
In this tutorial we’re going to sync iTunes music from a Windows PC to a Nexus 7 using iSyncr.
Step 1 : Host software
Syncing your Android requires both an app and a host program on your computer. Go to JRTStudio and download the PC version. There’s also a link for the Mac version. Run the installation and unblock it from Windows Firewall.
Step 2 : Download the app
Now go to Google Play and type in iSyncr. There are separate versions for a PC or Mac host. This costs £2.46. Sign in to your Google account and hit Buy. Select the device to send to and click on Continue. Review the purchase and buy.
Step 3 : Configure iSyncr server
Double-click on the iSyncr server in the Windows system tray and click on the WiFi Settings tab. The Password isn’t the same as the Wi-Fi router password on your network, it’s just for this connection so it doesn’t need to be changed.
Step 4 : Add photos and video
To get any photos and videos from your Android to sync to your iTunes you need to change the Photo and Video paths to where you store that media. Add Android to the folder name to keep them separate. Then click on Save.
Step 5 : Checking the app
Although the system works over USB and Wi-Fi it’s best to run it first over USB. Go to your device and tap on iSyncr. On launching iSyncr there’s a tutorial that you can run which explains the steps. Plug your device into the computer.
Step 6 : Gathering iTunes info
Right-click on iSyncr in the System Tray and click on your device name. This gathers information from iTunes and also launches the program. Ignore that and click on the dialogue box that iSyncr produces to see various tabs.
Step 7 : Selecting music artist
Each tab contains a listing of all the things presently in iTunes. Simply go through each one and tick to select for syncing to your Android device. An additional option is to remove music from your device that isn’t in the iTunes library.
Step 8 : Other sync options
Click on Options. One of the benefits of syncing iTunes music is getting the album art as well. Ensure this is ticked. Everything will be placed in a folder called Syncr. Click on that and change it to something more memorable like iTunes Music.
Step 9 : Start syncing music
Click on Done and then on Sync to start syncing the music across. This copies everything over song by song with a percentage complete notice. If there’s a lot to do it will take a fair amount of time. Click on Exit to finish here.
Step 10 : Play your music
Go to your device and tap on the Music app. The synced music will now appear along with any other music you have stored and can be played as you want. Now exit this and go back to iSyncr. Tap on Tools.
Step 11 : Configure upload options
Tap on Settings. Tap on Remove USB Tab to select as it doesn’t actually do anything. Tap on WiFi Reverse Sync. Put ticks into the boxes so new photos, videos and Amazon MP3s can be sent back to your computer.
Step 12 : Syncing by Wi-Fi
Go back out of Settings and tap on WiFi. Your iTunes library computer should appear here. Tap to select it. This lists all the playlists, music, videos, books, TV programmes and film categories. Tap on one and then on View to select.
Step 13 : Adding a playlist
The playlist for 90’s songs has been selected to View. The purple sign means it’s waiting to be synced. This applies to all media you view. Tap on Sync Now to sync this playlist, or music or other media, to your device, by Wi-Fi.
