If you have Windows 8 on your PC, laptop or mobile device then you will be looking for some apps. These are apps that are great for people who love to travel. Each one works with Windows 8, and each one does a slightly different thing to make your holiday and traveling a little more easy. People use traveling apps for the simple convenience that they allow. They use them because traveling takes people out of their comfort zone and away from the things that they are used to seeing. Apps such as these make traveling easier, especially if you are in a rush or have not correctly planned ahead.
The list is in no particular order because the apps each do different things. Each app is free or reasonably priced, and each one can be downloaded from the official Microsoft app merchant website. Each app is also very easy to download, install and remove. Each one is currently bug free and will work perfectly with any machine, so long as it has Windows 8 installed.
1 - WorldMate:This is a travel-planning app. You give them your email address and then use your inbox to plan and arrange your trip abroad. It will give you travel messages, hotel confirmations and flight confirmation. The app will also set up an itinerary for you that even has its own map. This app will help you to find hotels, car hire and even flights. There are even certain functions where you can book your holiday activities too. It is a good app to use to help remind you of certain things regarding your holiday.
2 - Meet1/2Way:This app is for people who like traveling and for people who have someone to meet. The name is meant to be read as “Meet half way,” which is what the app is based around. The app will show you the half way point between two map points. It is clever in the fact that it will also pull up all of the local restaurants and cafes (meeting places) so that you will have somewhere to meet. The app can even pull up hotels if you were looking to stop half way to your destination--which is handy when two people are sharing the driving responsibility.
3 - Inrix Traffic:This is an app that will allow you to judge and assess the local traffic. You can also avoid it
at peak times. This app can be used to help you avoid traffic jams or to help you to get out of them. There are a number of easy to recognize symbols that you will find very useful in interpreting the map. You can also record a few traffic incidents so that you can tell people about them and prove that they happened.
4 - 4th at Square:This is a UI from windows, and Foursquare is the Windows 8 client. The apps basic function is to show you the surrounding area so that you can check it for restaurants, cafes, stores, car parks,
gas stations and malls. It is a little more extensive than Google maps but has many of the same problems, namely that it is too slow to update the system. There is a good chance you will end up looking for a café that no longer exists.
5 - XE Currency:This is a good tool for people who are traveling from country to country. Some will say that it is for people who are too lazy to do the math, but the truth is, it is for people who are smart enough to use it. Why waste your time working out conversions when you can be off enjoying yourself. This tool will give you the conversion rates for whatever currency you wish, and then will calculate the amount of money that each is worth. It is good for if you are looking into bigger holiday purchases, such as getting a hotel room.
